Douglas County Education Foundation Opens 2019-2020 Scholarship Application Period
Posted on 02/08/2019

The Douglas County Education Foundation (DCEF) has opened its scholarship application period for students in the Douglas County School System Class of 2019. Graduates planning to continue their education at the college or university level may be eligible for almost $51,000 in community-funded scholarships.

“The foundation is excited to offer scholarships to graduating seniors from all five high schools in Douglas County,” said Tonya Jackson, foundation board chair. “These scholarships are particularly meaningful because they are funded by local individuals and businesses. Several are funded by school system teachers and my colleagues on the foundation board. The varied criteria mean we have something to offer almost everyone.”

Criteria for DCEF scholarships include major, high school, volunteerism, financial need, enrollment in College & Career Institute or Performance Learning Center, participation in sports, etc. Most scholarships require a minimum grade point average of 3.0, but some have no minimum requirement.

In addition to scholarships for students planning to attend a college or university, DCEF administers the All American Technician Academy (AATA) Scholarship valued at $2,482 each. These tuition waiver scholarships are for a week-long course at AATA in Douglasville and include all training materials and books. Students who complete the course will receive Level One HVAC Maintenance Technician certification, EPA certification, and life skills/mindset coaching. This is a wonderful kick-start for a well-paying in-demand career that has its own entrepreneurial opportunities.

“Scholarships are an important part of the work of the foundation,” said Ms. Jackson. “They provide recognition and financial support to deserving students while at the same time paying tribute to their namesakes. I look forward to meeting our 49 new scholarship recipients in April and introducing them to their donors and donor representatives.”

DCEF was known formerly as Public Education Trust, or PET. To learn more about DCEF scholarships and apply online, go to dcef.dcssga.org/scholarships. Students who want to apply for the All American Technician Academy Scholarship may request a paper application through email at [email protected]. The application period will continue through March 4.
