Letter from the Superintendent
Posted on 04/27/2021
Dear DCSS Families,

As we approach the end of the school year, we know that our parents and employees are eager to hear about plans for 2021-2022. While I don’t have all the answers for you, I can share what we know at this point.

As much as possible, we plan for next year to be a traditional school year. Our students will attend class five days a week. We believe that most children learn best in the classroom in front of a teacher, and we are anxious to have all of our students back in our buildings every day.

Because we know and respect that some parents would prefer that their child continue learning online next year due to COVID-19 concerns, we will have an online option. COVID Extension Services will be available only for students in grades 3-12 who were enrolled in School-Based Digital Learning (SBDL) for 2020-2021 and who meet certain additional criteria. Parents of SBDL students should have received a letter from their principal earlier this week with additional details about the online option.

Some parents and teachers have inquired if we will require masks for 2021-2022. I don’t have an answer for this yet. We will analyze the data in July and make a decision. We will also have more information and guidance at that time regarding social distancing.

Our goal is to keep students and staff safe while providing a quality learning experience. As always, I appreciate your support as we strive to make the best decisions for our students, families and employees.

Sincerely,

Trent North, Superintendent
