earning & Early Assessment for Preschoolers

The Douglas County School System's Special Education Preschool Program is an early intervention program serving children ages 2 through 5 who reside in Douglas County. It is a division of the Douglas County Schools Program for Exceptional Children. To be eligible for the Special Education Preschool Program, a child must exhibit a significant delay in one or more of the following areas: Cognitive Early Learning Skills, Speech/Language skills, Motor skills, Social Skills, Adaptive Skills, Vision Impairment or Hearing Impairment.

The philosophy of the Douglas County LEAP Program is to provide instruction for each child based on his/her developmental needs. We provide functional, language-building activities geared toward the development of appropriate social, self-care, motor, cognitive and communication skills. Students are assessed both formally and informally on a regular basis. Parental involvement is considered integral to meeting each child's overall needs. Our program uses several instructional methodologies as well as a variety of materials adapted to meet the needs of each child. We are committed to providing children and parents with a positive learning experience in a safe, nurturing and informative environment.
