December 6 Classes Announcement

No In-Person Classes on Dec. 6
Posted on 11/29/2022
Dear Douglas County School System Families and Community,

I’m sure you are aware that the runoff for the U.S. Senate will take place on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. You are probably also aware that many of our schools serve as polling locations. Since we expect to have hundreds of members of the public in our schools to vote, there will be no in-person classes for students on Tuesday, December 6. We are taking this measure to ensure the safety of students while the buildings are open to the public. Our teachers and staff will be in the buildings for a teacher workday.

While I understand that school closures are an inconvenience for some of our families, our primary concern is the health and safety of students. Some teachers may offer digital learning activities for remote learning, while others may take advantage of allowing students to work independently.  Our intention is that families are not burdened with monitoring digital learning. Even if students do not participate in structured learning on this day, I have confidence that our teachers and school leaders will ensure no disruption to your child’s academic success. All students are to return back to regularly scheduled classes on December 7, 2022.

I believe that it is important for the school system to partner with our government agencies to provide polling locations and ensure a smooth election process. I appreciate your understanding of this unanticipated day away from school for our students.

Sincerely,

Trent North, Superintendent
