Substitute Teaching Positions

Substitute teacher applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Applicants who have a teaching certificate are exempt from the Substitute Teacher Workshop and Substitute Online Training.


Substitute pay rate is $150/day ($200/day for long-term) and there is a one-month delay between first teaching assignment and first paycheck.


Please proceed as follows:

  • Complete an online substitute teacher application at Substitute Application Link

  • If certified, either upload/attach your certificate or provide your certificate number.

  • Attach/upload your own educational credential (high school or college diploma, college transcript, technical certificate, etc.)  Applicants to serve as a day-to-day substitute must have a high school diploma or GED; applicants for a long-term substitute (assignments of 10 or more consecutive days) must have a four-year degree or higher.

  • Selected applicants will be called for a telephone interview.

  • Selected applicants will be scheduled for fingerprinting. You must pass a criminal background check in order to serve as a substitute teacher. There is no charge for the fingerprint appointment.

  • New Douglas County substitutes must attend a four-hour Orientation and Training session before being admitted to teach. If unable to attend an orientation session or during intervals when  no session is offered, selected applicants will be given the opportunity to complete an online Substitute Skills course. 

If mailing your transcripts, please mail to DCSS, Attn: Chandell Johnson HR, P. O. Box 1077, Douglasville, GA 30133.   Transcripts do not need to be sealed.
