Douglas County School Nutrition Professionals had an inspiring evening filled with celebration, networking and learning at the Georgia School Nutrition Association Conference (GSNA).

Many Douglas County School System School Nutrition leaders participated in the annual conference, including Executive Director of School Nutrition Danielle Freeman, who shared insights on the Director’s Panel. DSNA District President and Manager at Alexander High School David Seagle also introduced the scroll award, a special recognition that allows the district to receive Gold Level Acknowledgement. The honor is based on professional learnings completed in the district to enhance the public’s perception of school nutrition professionals and programs.

During award distribution, Eastside Elementary Manager Alysia Powell secured first place for the culinary contest at the local and district levels, allowing her to compete on the state level. Powell was awarded third place in the state of Georgia for her tasty Mango Cucumber Salad.

Jazmine Powell, Manager at New Manchester Elementary School and Roderick Members, Floating Manager, were also recognized for their crafty culinary expertise. In the Culinary Chef Demo that was hosted live and during the Vendor Expo, Powell won first place for her Hawaiian Black Bean Burger topped with the award-winning Mango Cucumber Salad. Rodrick Members placed in the top three for his exquisite Southwestern Chicken Quesadilla with a Jalapeño Crème Dip.

School nutrition is excited to feature all the award-winning meals on the menu next school year.

Freeman continued the celebration for her team in a separate employee recognition ceremony, expressing gratitude for the staff’s unwavering dedication to students.

“It is important to me to honor the school nutrition staff," Freeman said. "They work hard daily, they love the children, and serve with dignity and respect. I want to thank them for all they do because without them there would be no us.”
