The Douglas County School System celebrated some of its biggest heroes on May 2 for School Lunch Hero Day.
School nutrition professionals received a special Lunch Hero T-shirt and took part in celebrations at their schools.
The DCSS School Nutrition Department held an employee appreciation ceremony to celebrate each school’s accomplishments, such as perfect health scores, attendance awards and manager and staff member of the year.
Alexander High School’s David Seagle was named Manager of the Year for the 2024-2025 school year.
Julia Thomas from New Manchester High School was recognized for taking third place at the state level for her mixed berry cobbler.
“School Lunch Hero Day is an annual day, celebrated on the first Friday in May, that recognizes and appreciates the hard work and dedication of school nutrition professionals,” said Jazmine Powell, Menu Specialist for DCSS. “It's a time to honor individuals who prepare and serve healthy meals for students while adhering to nutrition standards and handling food allergies.”
Thank you to all our DCSS school nutrition professionals for all you do!
