School Resource Officer Captain Duncan Quarless recently launched a mentoring group at Arbor Station Elementary to address behavior challenges and promote positive growth among young male students. Recognizing the need for guidance, structure and positive role models, Captain Quarless has created a safe and supportive space where young men can learn valuable life skills, express their feelings and build meaningful relationships.
“I’m wholeheartedly dedicated to guiding our youth and igniting their potential through the values of respect, collaboration, ambition, and self-discipline,” Captain Quarless said. “These pillars empower them to forge resilient character and thrive in their academic journey and future endeavors,” he added.
Through regular meetings, the group focuses on topics such as responsibility, respect, self-control and goal-setting. By fostering trust, encouraging open communication and promoting good decision-making, the young men gain skills to grow into confident, capable individuals.
Research shows that school-based mentoring programs—particularly those focusing on young men—can lead to significant positive outcomes, including improved behavior, increased academic engagement and greater involvement in civic activities and volunteer work.
Arbor Station Elementary is committed to enhancing the lives of young male students by fostering a supportive and empowering learning environment.
"We believe that by empowering our boys with these essential tools, we are not only enhancing their personal growth but also fostering a more respectful and harmonious school community,” emphasized Principal Dr. Emily Felton.
