New Manchester High School Softball Coach Chuck Walker is excited about the 2024 season.
The eighth-year coach says he has a JV team for the first time ever. And while the varsity team is young, with only one senior, the Lady Jags return six starters from last year.
“We're very young, but we're looking forward to a good season,” Walker said.
He spotlighted four team leaders and returning starters from last year during the recent DCSS Athletic Media Day event: sophomore first baseman Laila Nash, sophomore catcher/infielder Nyla Ashe, junior infielder/outfielder Bri’Aysia Polk and sophomore left fielder Malia Dorsey.
“The team's looking good,” said Nash, who is the Lady Jags’ team captain. “We're getting better and better every day. I'm looking forward to the season.”
Dorsey added: “We continue to grow. So, I'm very excited for that this year.”
