DSES stock market game winners

Dorsett Shoals fifth-graders proved they are Wall Street Whiz Kids and Stock Market Game Champions, clinching the top spot in the fall Stock Market Game. Sponsored by the Georgia Council on Economic Education, the 10-week online simulation of real-world stock trading allows students to research and apply their investment ideas in a real-world market.

Participants compete to create the best-performing portfolio, trading stocks, bonds, mutual funds in a live trading environment. First place team members, Madeline Norato, Tristin Morgan and Kayana Joyner triumphed over 100 other teams in the 13th Congressional District, turning their $100,000 initial investment into $123,130.91!

Prior to participating in the competition, students learned about all things economics: supply and demand, profit and loss, competition, risk, how to read a stock table and how to research investments.

“It is safe to say these winning students know how a market economy functions in today's society,” said Jennifer Murray, Gifted Education Teacher at Dorsett Shoals Elementary. “This achievement is a testament to their ability to apply financial knowledge in a real-world context.”

Murray enjoys guiding her fifth-grade students through the Stock Market Game each fall and takes great pride in their success.

“The Dorsett Shoals family congratulates them on their incredible achievement, and here's to many more successes in the exciting world of finance!,” she said.
