AHS, DCHS girls basketball game

Legacy Arena showcased its prowess as a sports venue over the holidays during the inaugural DC player shoots a free throwCougar Christmas Classic basketball tournament, hosted by Alexander High School.

Alexander girls basketball coach Dallas Smith called the tournament “an overwhelming success,” highlighting the arena and the intense competition as factors that made the Cougar Christmas Classic “one to remember.”

“The standout factor for many was the exceptional venue, with teams and spectators alike thoroughly impressed by the arena’s top-tier facilities,” Smith said.

The three-day tournament, held December 26-28, featured eight girls' teams and four boys' teams from across the state. Campbell’s girls and Cherokee’s boys claimed the overall championships.

In a local matchup on December 26, Alexander’s girls defeated Douglas County’s girls.

Looking ahead to Christmas 2025, Smith expressed hope that the Cougar Christmas Classic will become an annual holiday tradition in Douglas County.

“Organizers are already planning to expand the tournament next year, aiming to attract more DCSS teams, increase local involvement, and continue building on the foundation laid in this first year,” she said.
