PEC Executive Director Cheryl Handley interacts with a student at the Resource Fair.

The Douglas County School System Program for Exceptional Children hosted its "Shape the Genevieve Harris interacts with a person at the Resource Fair.Future" Transition and Resource Fair on March 27 at Legacy Arena, providing an opportunity for families and students with special needs to explore resources for their immediate and future success.

This comprehensive event connected families of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or Section 504 Plans with valuable community resources and support services. Additionally, the fair brought together representatives from postsecondary institutions, vocational training programs, and various support agencies under one roof.

During the event, visitors learned about postsecondary education options with accessibility support services and vocational training opportunities. They received information from the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, Roosevelt Warm Springs, and others. Additional resources were also available, including assistive technology demonstrations, behavior support programs, LEAP information, and guidance on topics such as guardianship, Medicaid waivers, and probate court processes.

The fair also featured recreational programs, camps, residential and day programs, plus guest speakers who shared valuable insights on transitioning to independence.

The successful event drew hundreds of families from across the area and created connections between service providers and those who need them most.
