Current Partners In Education (PIE) members were joined by prospective new members from the community and school system representatives on Wednesday, April 2, for networking and brainstorming and to let prospective new members know how they can get involved. The gathering of more than 40 people in the Magnolia Room at DCSS Central Office had discussions around their individual tables about the work they have been doing this school year. Following those discussions, a member of each small group reported on all contributions of time, talents and resources that had been made.
The reports covered a broad range of topics including participation in career days at the schools, writing grants for groceries to be sent home with students whose families are experiencing food insecurity, donations of school supplies, teaching students about financial literacy, and partnerships with retailers to stock the schools’ clothes closets. The ways to contribute were as varied as the individuals in the room, and all were presented with enthusiasm.
“We are excited and thankful for the great turnout at this year's PIE and Coffee event,” said Tekmekia Gilchrist, DCSS Executive Director of CTAE/6-12 Curriculum and the district’s liaison for the PIE organization. “It was inspiring to see so many engaged individuals coming together to support our schools’ educational growth. Events like these not only foster stronger partnerships but also provide invaluable opportunities to share ideas, resources, and strategies that benefit both students and educators. It's clear that when we collaborate, we can make a real difference,” she added.
