Angeliki Lekkou and Afia Adade

Afia Adade of Lithia Springs High School is among dozens of Class of 2025 students across the district who will have additional accolades awarded by the Georgia Department of Education on their diplomas. The Georgia Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to high school graduates who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one additional language. The Georgia International Skills Diploma Seal is awarded to graduates who have excelled in their studies of world languages and cultures and an international education curriculum.

In addition to the world language component, the criteria for this program includes completion of curriculum spanning areas such as international economics, and world history; participation in activities that foster global engagement such as study abroad or internships with international companies; completion of service projects with an international focus; and a capstone project. These prestigious recognitions appear on the diploma and transcript, highlighting students' capabilities to colleges, employers, and scholarship committees. The district has a total of 45 graduates who have earned the state biliteracy seal and 55 graduates who have earned the international skill seal this year.

Schools may nominate one “star student” to participate in the recognition ceremonies that take place in April each year. Adade will represent LSHS at the 2025 celebration event at Georgia Department of Education this month.

Douglas County High School will be represented by Kaylin Wu as 2025 State ISDS Star, and Amanda Ubera-Corona as Seal of Biliteracy Star.

NMHS senior Jayden Stephens is the school’s International Skills Diploma Seal (ISDS) STAR student.
