AHS Track Team

Alexander High School’s track and field teams swept the Region 5-5A Track and Field AHS boys track team members with medalsChampionships held last weekend at East Paulding.

The girls' team delivered a commanding performance, finishing with an impressive 194 points, well ahead of Rome High School (124 points) and New Manchester (103 points).

The boys' team also shined, securing the Region Title with 212 points. Villa Rica followed in second (101 points) and Kennesaw Mountain in third (95.5 points).

Boys Highlights

  • Daylen Scott sprinted to victory in the 100-meter dash, clocking 11.08 seconds to earn the Region Title and advance to Sectionals.

  • Daylen also finished second in the 200-meter dash (22.37) and was part of the Region Champion 4x100-meter relay team alongside Cantrell Etheridge, Craig Summers, and Justis Lester, posting a winning time of 42.56 seconds.

In the 400-meter dash finals, the Cougars showcased their depth:

  • Cayden Guidry — Region Champion with 48.14 seconds.

  • Justyn McKenzie — second place at 48.37.

  • Landyn Buchanan — fourth place at 48.67.

These three, along with Mason Whitehead, went on to capture the 4x400-meter relay Region Title and set a new school record with a time of 3:15.79 — just two seconds shy of Georgia’s All-Time Top Ten list!

In the 800 meters:

  • Cayden Guidry captured his second individual Region Title (1:55.12).

  • Justyn McKenzie placed a strong second (1:56.52).

  • Freshman Cortez Adams delivered a thrilling finish to qualify for Sectionals with a time of 2:02.70.

Cortez also anchored the Region Champion 4x800-meter relay team with Charlie White, Zach Porter, and Raydel Quintero.

Zach Porter dominated the distance events, earning two individual Region Titles in the 3200AHS runners meters and the 1600 meters.

  • Charlie White placed third in the 1600.

  • Drew Lester qualified for Sectionals by finishing fourth in the 3200.

In the hurdles:

  • Cantrell Etheridge won the 110-meter hurdles (14.25), with Mason Whitehead placing second (14.56).

  • In the 300-meter hurdles, Mason claimed the Region Title (38.52), followed closely by Cantrell (39.34) and Jai Harris, who placed third (40.79).

In the 4x200-meter relay, Mason, Landyn, Daylen, and Justis teamed up to finish second overall with 1:29.28, narrowly missing first place by just 0.12 seconds.

In the field events:

  • Michael Brady placed second in the Triple Jump with a mark of 43' 4.5".

  • Trey Albertson secured second in the Pole Vault, clearing 11' 6".

  • R.J. Black placed fourth in both the Discus (131' 2") and Shot Put (43' 10"), qualifying for Sectionals.

Girls Highlights

The Girls’ Team delivered an equally impressive list of victories and Region Champions!AHS girls with medals

Autumn Rollins completed a triple crown of individual Region Championships:
• 100-meter dash — 12.26 seconds.
• 200 meters — 25.27 seconds.
• High Jump — cleared 5' 0".

Cortney Adams was a double individual Region Champion:
• 400 meters — a blazing 56.62.
• 800 meters — a smooth 2:28.00.
• She also led the 4x400-meter relay team to a second-place finish, alongside Ceyonce Reid, Akerria Battle, and Taelor Jones.

Emily McDonald placed:
• Second in the 800 meters (2:28.59).
• Second in the 1600 and 3200 meters.
• Helped the 4x800-meter relay team (with Ceyonce Reid, Grace John, and Marley Tidwell) secure a 4th place finish and a spot at Sectionals.

Freshman Marley Tidwell also advanced in the 3200 meters, placing 4th.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Oluwadamiola (Dami) Owekunie, Enice Williams, Meliyha Daniels, and Payston Starr placed 4th overall, advancing to Sectionals.

In the High Jump:

• Denise Taylor cleared 4' 10" to place third.
• Autumn Rollins also qualified in the Long Jump, placing third.

Aubree McAdams qualified in the Pole Vault by placing third.

In the throws, the Alexander Girls showed total dominance:

Ella Bevarage:
• Region Champion in Discus — 108' 5".
• 4th in Shot Put — 29' 10".

Kinsley Williams:
• Region Champion in Shot Put — 37' 4".
• 3rd in Discus — 95' 9".

Holleigh Roney lived up to her nickname “Miss Consistent”:
• 2nd in Discus — 104' 10".
• 2nd in Shot Put — 33' 4.5".

Both teams now advance to the GHSA Class 5A State Sectionals on May 3 at Villa Rica High School.
