AHS hurdlers

Despite Saturday morning’s gloomy weather trying to rain on the parade, the Alexander HighAHS track athlete School Cougars track team shined through with standout performances at the the Sectional Meet at Villa Rica High School to punch their tickets to the Georgia State Championships.

Freshman Phenom
Autumn Rollins wasted no time making a name for herself in her rookie season. The talented freshman blazed to 4th in the 100 meters with a swift 12.08 and soared 17 feet, 2.5 inches in the long jump—both earning her a golden ticket to state!

Cortney Adams: Triple Threat
Cortney Adams was unstoppable on the track, cruising to state with a 57.39 in the 400 meters and a 2:23.53 in the 800. As if that wasn’t enough, she anchored the powerhouse 4x400 meter relay squad—alongside Ceyonce Reid, Akerria Battle, and Taelor Jones—that clocked a sizzling 4:03.67 to advance.

Emily McDonald’s Distance Domination
Emily McDonald showcased her endurance, advancing in three grueling events. She finished the 1600 meters in 5:18.44 (6th), the 800 meters in 2:24.02, and capped it off with an 11:49.28 in the 3200 meters for another 6th-place finish. Talk about a distance queen!

Discus Dynasty
The Cougar throwers were on fire! Ella Beverage launched a winning throw of 109-1, while AHS track athleteHolleigh Roney and Kinsley William each tied for second with 102-7 in the discus. All three are headed to Rome to chase state glory.

Boys Bringing the Heat
Daylen Scott sprinted to a personal best 10.88 in the 100 meters, securing his state spot. In the 400 meters, the trio of Cayden Guidry (50.02), Justyn McKenzie (49.86), and Landyn Buchanan (48.64) all qualified—and they weren’t done yet. Teaming up with Mason Whitehead, they torched the track in the 4x400 relay with a blazing 3:15.78.

Justyn and Cayden also punched their tickets in the 800 meters, running 1:55.23 and 1:55.36, respectively.

Hurdle Heroes
Mason Whitehead and Cantrell Etheridge proved unstoppable over the barriers. Cantrell clocked 14.10 and Mason 14.40 in the 110m hurdles. In the 300m hurdles, Mason ran 39.15 and Cantrell 39.25—both advancing to state in style.

Relay Power & Pole Vault Precision
The 4x800 relay team of Charlie White, Raydel Quintero, Cortez Adams, and Zach Porter delivered with an 8:14.09 finish to book their trip to Rome. Meanwhile, Trey Albertson soared over the bar at 11-6 in the pole vault to secure his state berth.

Field Event Finisher
Rounding out the qualifiers, Robert Black hurled the discus 134-6 to lock in his spot among Georgia’s best.

With momentum on their side, the Alexander Cougars are poised to make waves at the State Championships this weekend in Rome.
