Students and staff recently gathered at Chapel Hill High School to celebrate LEAP Field Day. Young athletes from the special needs preschool program were all smiles as they enjoyed a day of fun, food and interactive sporting events—celebrating their unique abilities while building confidence and meaningful connections.
“Today was all about big smiles and tiny high-fives—our LEAP Field Day brought laughter, and a whole lot of fun as students, parents and teachers celebrated every step together,” said Dr. Lameshea Cranford, Principal of the LEAP Program.
The fun-filled event kicked off at 9 a.m. with the exceptional athletes running through the start ribbon to open the games. Student volunteers then led a variety of activities including the soccer shoot, frisbee and ring toss, parachute activity and bowling. To add to the excitement, dedicated LEAP parents volunteered to provide an obstacle bounce house and gaming truck.
Overall, the Field Day experience had a significant impact on both the student volunteers and the LEAP student community, serving as a valuable opportunity to develop leadership, organizational and communication skills while managing various aspects of the event.
“The experience not only enhances their confidence but also fosters a strong sense of responsibility,” remarked Dr. Cranford.
The event ended at 1 p.m. with each student-athlete receiving a medal to commemorate the experience.
