Teyah Smith, a seventh grader at Brighten Academy, has most recently been accepted into the Brighten's Teyah SmithVeritas School of Sciences with a direct emphasis on the Veritas Debate Institute. The selection process was a rigorous, multi-interview intensive process spanning several weeks.

The Veritas Debate Institute (VDI), formerly known as the Harvard Debate Council Diversity Project, is the flagship program of Veritas, offering a one-year introductory experience for students.

VDI prepares Metro Atlanta youth for college-level social sciences through weekly Saturday classes, covering subjects such as philosophy, political science, sociology, rhetoric and debate. The program culminates in a summer residential session at Harvard, where students engage in a two-week academic experience and compete in an international debate competition.
