Lithia Springs High School seniors in Angeliki Lekkou’s classes recently created a video titled “Every Second Counts” for the Georgia Department of Transportation to improve awareness about distracted driving.
The one-minute video, part of a competition focused on responsible driving on Georgia roads, shows a LSHS student in her car accidentally running into a fellow student in the parking lot while distracted by her cellphone and the consequences.
Lekkou said that as more drivers become distracted by texting and using social media on their phones, more accidents are happening, “putting everybody’s life in danger, especially with the construction on Lee Road.”
“Their goal is to improve and to help Georgia everyday drivers of all ages to think and act responsibly while on the road,” Lekkou said. “As distracted driving becomes more dangerous than DUI, these young kids are showing us how one second can change everybody's life even while driving in a parking lot.”
