The Douglas County School System has partnered with West Georgia Regional Library System Summer Reading Pop Up flyerfor "Douglas County Loves Literacy," a community-wide initiative aimed at reaching 10 million minutes of summer reading.

Students, who have already logged over 18 million minutes this school year, are encouraged to read 100 minutes weekly for a total of 1,000 minutes this summer. Library patrons have also been using Beanstack to track their reading, with the entire community working together toward the 10 million minute goal.

All participants can track their reading through the Beanstack app, accessible via smartphone, tablet or computer.

Seven Summer Literacy Pop-Up events will bring the community together at local parks from 6-7 p.m., featuring celebrity readers, free books, frozen treats, and visits from the WGRLS Book Mobile and the Douglas County Rec and Roll van.

"Reading thermometers" placed throughout the district will track weekly progress toward the community goal, with a celebration planned for mid-August for those who meet their reading targets.
