Students eat low country boil

Douglas County middle and high school students were treated to a special lunch last Friday whenA student points to his low country boil the School Nutrition Department served a traditional low-country boil that quickly became the talk of the school (and social media).

The festive meal, which included corn, potatoes, egg, and sausage, was an immediate hit among students. The special meal was made possible through the Local Food for School Grant, allowing the nutrition department to offer students this fan favorite.

The event's popularity extended beyond the cafeteria when one enthusiastic student posted about the lunch on TikTok. The video has since garnered over 20,000 likes and been shared more than 1,500 times.

Executive Director of School Nutrition Danielle Freeman expressed pride in the team's efforts, stating, "We would like to send a huge shout out to our nutrition teams at the high schools and middle schools for doing an excellent job this past Friday on our Low Country Boil. We were able to pull this off for our students, thanks to the Local Food for School Grant."

The success of the special lunch has many students already asking when the popular dish might return to the cafeteria menu.
