ASES students using Oreo cookies to show moon phases.

Second-grade students at Arbor Station Elementary School have been learning about the phases of the moon with the help of some familiar treats.

Sarah Coker said students in her second-grade class demonstrated their understanding of the moon using craft sticks to shape the cream inside Oreo cookies to show the moon in different phases. They then placed the Oreos onto their graphic organizers to represent the eight moon phases.

Coker said second-grade teacher Stacy Andersen came up with the idea to use Oreos for the lesson.

"They had so much fun, and I loved hearing the vocabulary words they were using as they completed the models,” Coker said.
