Third- through fifth-grade students at Arbor Station Elementary recently stepped into the political arena, running for positions on the Student Council. Candidates used their creativity to prepare campaign speeches on the topic, "How would you model for students how to be a friend, not a bully?" Colorful posters lined the school walls, inspiring others as each candidate shared their ideas.
Arbor Station modeled official polling stations by organizing electronic voting and handing out “I Voted” stickers to participating students.
“The votes were very close, reflecting how much everyone cares about making Arbor Station a kind and welcoming place,” said Principal Dr. Emily Felton.
After the votes were electronically counted, the following winners were announced:
• LaNae Ford, Student Council President and representative on Superintendent Dr. Trent North's Student Advisory Council
• Jojo Walker, Vice President
• Bailey Thompson, Public Relations
• Lyla Shaw, Recording Secretary
Dr. Felton expressed Bear pride for all of her young scholars.
"I am so proud of all our students who participated in this process. Their leadership, creativity, and kindness truly shine,” she said. I look forward to seeing the positive impact of our new Student Council in action."
