For the fourth year, Eastside Elementary School turned into a barnyard as students, teachers, and staff celebrated National School Milk Day. The festivities, part of World Cow Day, highlighted the school system’s commitment to nutrition and wellness.
Each year, the celebration grows larger and larger, and this year, they embraced the theme "Eastside is LegenDAIRY." Leading the school’s annual celebration was School Nutrition employee Alyshia Powell. Powell promotes healthy habits and also works to engage students beyond her usual role behind the cafeteria serving line.
This year, Powell joined teachers, students and staff members by wearing cow-printed clothing. She encouraged participation throughout Eastside’s entire school community. By doing so, she hopes to raise awareness about healthy choices while bringing the school community together in a fun and educational way.
"Ms. Powell is fully committed to our annual celebration," said Anitra Paige, Assistant Principal at Eastside Elementary. "She wore her cow suit while entertaining students during lunch by playing milk-related songs and reading a book to them. Her enthusiasm has made World Cow Day a memorable, 'moo-ving' tradition at Eastside."
National School Milk Day highlights the importance of school milk programs by showcasing the nutritional benefits of dairy products for children's growth and development.
