School leaders and over 27 business volunteers recently participated in Mock Interview Day, helping ensure future success for over 200 Work-Based Learning (WBL) students. Scholars from all five Douglas County High Schools experienced the annual event, which provided real-world experience in resume writing, networking, career exploration, community engagement and in-person job interviews.

Executive Director of CTAE/6-12 Curriculum Tekmekia Gilchrist praised the event’s impact on students.

“Practicing interview skills in a controlled setting can boost students’ confidence when they face real job interviews in the future,” she said. “Business professionals provide constructive feedback to help students improve their interview skills— an invaluable tool for personal and professional growth.”

Overall, the mock interviews—coupled with business partners from the community—are a valuable part of the WBL career readiness and professional development program, preparing students for their future endeavors in the workforce.

The event was hosted by the WBL Coordinators at each of the five high schools: Julie Jeffcoat at Alexander High School; Summer Rogers at Chapel Hill High School; Dr. Tawyna Bailey at Douglas County High School; Kimberly Isles at Lithia Springs High School; and Whitney Lester at New Manchester High School.
