New Alexander flag football coach Matt Pierce said the 2025 season is shaping up to be an exciting one for the Cougars.

Pierce said he has a strong core of returning players, including captains Lilly Munoz, Dawn Smith and Sydney Murdaugh, which gives the team both leadership and experience.

Offensively, Alexander is led by Murdaugh, Kennedy Cantrell, Olivia Berry, Autumn Rollins, Kenzie Townsend and Maddyn Solek.

“Our offense will try to keep an equal balance of run and pass,” Pierce said.

Defensively, Alexander is focused on creating turnovers and flying to the ball. Munoz, Jada Davis and Tru McGregor are among the leaders on that side of the ball.

Pierce said while this year’s schedule is challenging, he believes the team can improve on last year’s 9-4 mark.

Through the first eight games, the Cougars are 5-3, including a key area win against Chapel Hill.

“Overall, we enter our season with high energy and clear goals: compete for a region title and advance deep into the state playoffs,” he said. “We want to sharpen their skills each week and build a team culture that thrives on competitiveness, hard work, and having a deep team camaraderie.”
