New Manchester Elementary School built a brand-new, kid-designed playground Saturday in a celebration that brought together the entire community.
Parents, neighbors, Amazon employees, KABOOM! volunteers, local community organizations, and members of fraternities and sororities all joined forces to make the project a reality. The playground project was completed in partnership with Amazon and KABOOM!, a national nonprofit committed to ending playspace inequity. During the event, dozens of community volunteers worked together to transform the school's play area in a single day.
"It was a tremendous success," said New Manchester Elementary School Tanyia Clagette "Seeing so many people from different parts of our community come together for our children was truly inspiring."
The school community led the creation of the playground, from design to installation. In August,
kids from New Manchester Elementary School shared drawings of their dream playspaces with project organizers. These ideas were integrated into the final new playground design and ensured the equipment reflected what the children wanted most in their new play area.
With the support of Amazon and KABOOM!, the school transformed its aging playground into a safe, new play area designed for fun, friendship, and active learning.
Following Saturday’s playground construction, New Manchester Elementary's Junior Beta Club members joined the community for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The students were among the first to see their new equipment.
New Manchester Elementary School’s new playground is part of KABOOM!'s nationwide effort to end playspace inequity. Since 1996, KABOOM! has partnered with kids and communities to create or transform more than 17,000 playspaces, ensuring that 12 million children have equitable access to the benefits of play.
