Factory Shoals Elementary students recently got a firsthand look at the world of energy, innovation and community partnership thanks to a special in-house field trip sponsored by GreyStone Power Corporation. Students in grades 3 through 5 who participate in the 21st Century Community Learning Center/Dolphin Club lit up with excitement when GreyStone’s mobile team brought their Mini Transformer Wagon and interactive demonstrations to campus.
“Our students were fascinated by the real-world connection,” said Tina Henry, Co-Site Coordinator for the 21st CCLC Dolphin Club.
Travis and Chris from GreyStone Power shared their expertise as professional linemen, providing students with an up-close look at how electricity travels through power lines and demonstrating the skills required to keep communities safely connected. The kids were intrigued—asking thoughtful questions, staying fully engaged, and eager to know more about what it takes to pursue a career in linework.
“They not only saw how science and math come to life, but they also met professionals who make an impact in our community every day,” added Jazzmyne Nelson, Co-Site Coordinator for the 21st CCLC Dolphin Club.
GreyStone’s visit is part of Factory Shoals’ ongoing effort to expose students to STEM and career pathways through partnerships that bring learning beyond the classroom.
“We’re proud to partner with organizations like GreyStone Power that help us inspire curiosity and career awareness early,” said Principal Tosha Wright. “Our Dolphin Club students are the future innovators of Douglas County.”
The Factory Shoals 21st CCLC program continues to offer after-school enrichment that blends academics, creativity, and community connections, ensuring that learning stays bright long after the school day ends.
