A first-grade class at Chapel Hill Elementary School recently set an exciting goal: to read more minutes than their teacher, Sarah Bruce, by the end of the month. Each student who surpassed Bruce’s total reading time earned a special prize—a brand-new book to take home and add to their personal library.
According to Bruce, the challenge not only motivated students to increase their reading time and build stamina, but it also inspired her to read more at home.
“It was rewarding to see how the challenge encouraged everyone to develop a stronger reading habit,” she said. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to watch my students embrace a love for reading!”
