New Manchester senior quarterback Delancy Alexander has helped lead the JaguarsGroup photo of Alexander, Guilford, Bussey and DeJesus on signing day at NMHS to a school-record eight wins and the state playoffs the past two seasons.

This season, he threw for 1,897 yards and 16 touchdowns and rushed for another 410 yards and four TDs.

On Tuesday, Alexander added another major accolade to his résumé when he was named the winner of the Howard Thompson Award as the county’s top senior football player.

Douglas County School System Athletics Director Eric Collins, New Manchester Principal Casey Bethel, Athletic Director Clifton Clark, Head Football Coach Olten Downs and Assistant Head Coach Jamal Jackson presented Alexander with the trophy during a special signing day ceremony at the school.

Alexander is the second player in school history to earn the Howard Thompson Award. Running back Omahri Jarrett won the trophy in 2014 and went on to play at Georgia Tech, becoming the school’s first ever to play Division I football.Delancy Alexander signs with FIU as his parents look on.

In addition to athletics, Alexander has also excelled in the classroom, earning a 4.0 GPA while serving in the Beta Club, FCA and National Honor Society. Alexander has committed to Division I Florida International University, where he will play at the next level.

Three other outstanding NMHS athletes also announced their Division I college commitments at Tuesday’s event:
