Students perform at the 2026 Honor Choruses Concert at Alexander High School

Choral students from across the Douglas County School System took the stage for the annual Douglas County Honor Choruses Concert on Jan. 13 at the Alexander High School Performing Arts Center. The 6:30 p.m. performance featured outstanding middle and high school vocalists selected for musical excellence and leadership in their local programs.

The Douglas County Honor Choruses convened for a day and a half of artistic immersion, bringing together selected students from across the school system, including Brighten Academy.

This high-energy event challenged students through intensive rehearsals, sectionals and collaboration. Participants had the opportunity to study with two of the state's finest clinicians, refining their vocal technique, musicality and ensemble skills in preparation for the culminating public performance.

The Middle School Honor Chorus was led by clinician Ladell Fortune, with Johnetta Johnson Page serving as accompanist. The High School Honor Chorus was under the direction of Dr. Deanna Joseph, with Dr. Leslie Gillis as accompanist.

In addition to student instruction, the event also provided professional learning for the district's choral directors, allowing them to collaborate, observe and engage with master teachers throughout the day.

Students rehearsed extensively across the two-day period and presented a culminating evening concert for an audience of families, educators and community members.
