Chapel Hill High School's Josh Wilkinson became the first male swim state champion in Douglas County history, winning the 100-yard butterfly last weekend at the GHSA Swimming and Diving State Championship at Georgia Tech.
Wilkinson’s time of 48.84 seconds broke his county record in the event. He also finished fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.36.
Wilkinson finishes his high school swim career with four top-four finishes at state, Coach Jihad Pratt said.
Alexander's Dina Miller finished second in the 100 freestyle with a 52.59, a school record that gave her the second highest finish for a female swimmer in county history and the highest state finish by an AHS swimmer. Miller also finished fifth in the 100 backstroke with a 57.95 after breaking her county record in the prelims with a 57.29—more than two seconds faster than the previous mark.
“Watching Dina compete at the GHSA State Swim Meet was incredible,” said AHS coach Suzie Scharff. “Dina's work ethic and dedication truly paid off, and I couldn’t be more proud of her accomplishments. It was a privilege to be there to support her.”
Douglas County's Eduardo Lozano finished 15th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:00.66. He also took 17th in the 200 freestyle with a school record 1:48.14 that was .04 off the county record.
