Holly Springs Elementary recently welcomed author Derrick Barnes for a special visit in honor of
Black History Month. Thanks to Principal Dr. Sherritta Abell, the esteemed author's appearance was perfectly timed to kick off the celebratory month alongside the school’s Lit, Love, Read Challenge.
During the visit, Barnes spoke with Holly Hawks about what inspired his journey as an author and read from his latest book, "Seven Million Steps." Students were highly engaged throughout the assembly, asking thoughtful questions and demonstrating a strong interest in literacy and storytelling.
Dr. Abell extended special thanks to Mrs. FeFe Handy with Page Turners Make Great Learners Inc. for organizing the impactful event.
“Kudos to everyone who helped make this event possible — especially our teachers and staff for their support during the assembly,” said Dr. Abell. “We also thank the parents and community for purchasing today’s featured book. We can’t wait for everyone to dive into its inspirational message.”
