Alexander's boys' basketball team has a chance to add another state championship to the
trophy case Friday night in Macon.
The No. 2-ranked Cougars will play No. 3 Woodward for the Class AAAAA state title, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. at the Macon Coliseum. The game will be televised on Georgia Public Broadcasting and streamed online at gpb.org/sports and on the NFHS Network.
A win would give Alexander its second state championship in three years. The Cougars defeated Lee County to win the Class AAAAAA championship in 2023.
Alexander advanced to the title game with an 85-76 win over Tri-Cities last Friday in the semifinals. Marquise Leslie, the Cougars' 6-foot-8 forward who has committed to Charleston Southern, led the team with 27 points. Guard Jayden Crawford, a Georgia Southern commit, added 17 points, wing Torian Greene had 14 points and a team-high nine assists, and point guard Gregory "Pops" Dunson, a Colorado State commit, contributed 11 points and a team-best nine rebounds.
Alexander is 29-2 overall and has won 24 straight since mid-December, including its fourth straight region championship.
Dunson is averaging 17.5 points and 5.3 assists to lead the Cougars in both categories this
season, followed by Crawford with 12.6 points and 3 assists, Greene with 11.7 points and 3.1 assists, and Leslie with 8.5 points and a team-best 5.9 rebounds per game.
Woodward is 25-6 overall and is the Region 4-AAAAA champion. The War Eagles have won their last 15, including a 62-61 semifinal win over Gainesville, which was 30-0 and the top-ranked team in Class AAAAA entering the game.
