Alexander High School teachers Anson Wilson and Brooke Morris partnered April 29 to create a unique learning opportunity by swapping their Level 3 Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education classes.
The intentional exchange allowed students to step into career fields that are often traditionally gender-dominated — Morris’s Early Childhood pathway and Wilson’s Automotive Technology pathway.
Morris’s Early Childhood Education students learned basic vehicle maintenance and successfully completed an oil change on a shop vehicle. Wilson’s Automotive Technology students learned about caring for infants through hands-on simulation, giving them a deeper understanding of the patience, responsibility and attentiveness required in childhood care.
“This powerful cross-pathway collaboration provided students with meaningful exposure to new skill sets, encouraged open-mindedness, and reinforced the importance of respect for all career fields,” Morris said. “By stepping outside of traditional roles, students gained confidence, empathy, and a broader perspective, proving that success has no gender limits — only dedication and effort.”
Morris said the collaboration is just the beginning.
"We are proud of the leadership, creativity, and student engagement displayed in this experience, and we look forward to more innovative learning opportunities across CTAE programs," she said.
