Former Chapel Hill High School standout baseball player Ryan Wynn is headed to the Seattle Mariners.

Wynn, a 2023 Chapel Hill graduate, was taken by the Mariners in the seventh round of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft in July.

The Douglasville native played a big role in the University of Georgia’s memorable season that saw the Bulldogs advance to the College World Series for the first time since 2008.

Wynn hit .323 with 32 runs, 14 doubles, nine homers, 37 RBIs and four stolen bases for Georgia while playing shortstop and second base during his junior season.

“Being able to hear my name called was a dream come true — a moment that I have envisioned since I first stepped on the field,” said Wynn, who played his first two collegiate seasons at Wofford College before transferring to Athens. “It felt like all the hours that I put in were starting to pay off and the sacrifices that parents and family made to make sure I could follow my dreams were recognized. This is still a small achievement for the ultimate goal of playing in the Major Leagues.”

While at Chapel Hill, Wynn helped lead the Panthers to their first playoff win in nearly a decade. He earned all-region and all-state honorable mention honors there.

Wynn said his time at Chapel Hill played a huge role in who he has become, both on and off the field, helping him develop leadership skills in the classroom and on the diamond.

His parents, Lamarlon and LaVonia Wynn, said “it means the world to our family” to see Ryan drafted by the Mariners.

“To see your child work diligently to be the best at something they truly have a passion for is nothing short of inspiring,” Lamarlon and LaVonia said. “His perseverance and persistence in overcoming challenges of a rising athlete have made us proud of who he is as a person as well.”

“This was a strong part of the village — family, friends and community — that has provided a foundation for Ryan to flourish,” his parents said.

Ryan played T-Ball at Boundary Waters, youth baseball at Hunter and Bill Arp parks and attended Arbor Station Elementary and Chapel Hill Middle. Those experiences, in addition to his playing time with the acclaimed Georgia travel team, 6-4-3 DP Athletics in Marietta, were all instrumental in Ryan’s development, his parents said.

“Douglasville and Douglas County have been instrumental in Ryan’s development as he journeyed from Wofford, UGA and now the Mariners,” his parents said. “And we are beyond proud of him and all he has accomplished and has yet to accomplish.”
