The Douglas County School System and the Douglas County Board of Education are excited that Douglas County property owners will not see a school tax increase this year. The Board of Education will roll back the millage rate by 1.262 mills, marking the 11th straight year the board has lowered the rate.

The rate has fallen from 19.55 mills in 2021 to a proposed 17.588 mills this year. Rising property values have grown the county's tax digest, allowing the district to bring in more revenue for schools even at a lower rate.

The move comes alongside a proposed $359 million budget for FY27, a 6% increase over last year, driven largely by rising personnel costs. As part of that plan, classroom teachers, media specialists, counselors, and social workers will receive a $4,000 raise.

"For the past 11 years, it has been the goal of the board to be good stewards of taxpayers' dollars," said Superintendent Dr. Trent North. "When we can roll back, we always try to do so because our families deserve it."
