Bill Arp Elementary School began a new tradition this school year with its first official classroom ribbon-cutting ceremony. Faculty and staff gathered to celebrate three first-year teachers as they officially opened the doors to their first classrooms.

The celebration began in the second-grade hallway at Ms. Pollock’s and Ms. Evans’ classrooms, concluding at Ms. Gilbert’s classroom on the first-grade hallway. Staff members cheered and applauded as each teacher cut the ribbon, marking the beginning of their teaching journey at Bill Arp Elementary.

Principal Christy Shackelford knows firsthand how meaningful a teacher’s first classroom can be.

“It is where I welcomed my first students, taught my first lessons, grew through new experiences and created memories that have stayed with me throughout my career,” she said.

Shackelford said the Bill Arp school community is proud to welcome the new teachers and looks forward to supporting them as they begin their careers, adding, “The ribbon cutting was a simple but meaningful way to recognize an important milestone and celebrate the beginning of what will surely be a special year.”
