Mason Creek Elementary's reading superstars celebrated with an ice cream and Capri Sun social Aug. 21 for meeting their goals in the Douglas Loves Literacy Summer Reading Challenge

Media specialist Katie Henry said the cool treats were the perfect way to "end the hottest week of the year."

In addition to the treats, students also enjoyed dancing, listening to music and chatting with friends while checking out the new furniture in the media center.

Mason Creek's readers contributed to the 3,472,877 minutes that Douglas County readers logged, exceeding the 3-million-minute target. Henry added that Mason Creek readers have already logged 43,166 minutes on Beanstack in the new school year.

"We are so proud of all of our Wolf Cubs and love celebrating the students who set goals and work hard to achieve them!" she said. "These students deserved to be recognized and rewarded for going above and beyond, especially during their summer break. We are thrilled to encourage our Wolf Cubs to keep reading, growing, and building their love of books all summer long. Celebrating their accomplishments is one of our favorite things, and we are so proud of every student who made reading a priority this summer!"
