Sixth-graders at Mason Creek Middle School recently put a real-world twist on their latest read, "The Homework Machine" by Dan Gutman.
“Inspired by a social experiment conducted by one of the main characters in the book, students decided to test the concept right at school,” said media specialist Jennifer Baker.
Baker posted small strips of paper in the sixth-grade hallway, cafeteria, front office and atrium that simply read: "Wear all black tomorrow,” while members of the book club spread the word.
The signs were only posted for about four hours, but word quickly spread among students and teachers throughout the building. Students were ecstatic to see so many of their peers dressed in all black, making their very first social experiment a tremendous success.
Students and staff were grateful to everyone who participated and helped bring the book to life.
