Two Douglas County organizations teamed up this month to give teachers an extra resource for their classrooms. On Sept. 16, representatives from the Community Diamonds Foundation, Inc. and the Carrollton-Douglasville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. visited four schools to launch the inaugural Teachers' Closet initiative.

Representatives delivered supplies to Annette Winn Elementary, Stewart Middle, Douglas County High and New Manchester High.

Each school now has a stocked closet where teachers can pick up extra items at no cost.

The organizations plan to restock the closets later in the school year, expand the initiative to more schools in the future, and maintain a strong presence at Annette Winn Elementary's Real Men Read program.

"Our teachers are grateful this resource is available when they need it. We're thankful to the Community Diamonds Foundation and the Carrollton-Douglasville Alumni Chapter for thinking of our staff," said Casey Bethel, principal of New Manchester High School.

The Community Diamonds Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on youth development and community service in Carroll and Douglas counties. The Carrollton-Douglasville Alumni Chapter, Inc. was chartered in 2005 and has supported local communities ever since.

Representatives from both groups thanked Superintendent Dr. Trent North and the Douglas County School System for the opportunity to serve.
