Bright Star Elementary's 21st Century Program students have been learning all about Georgia cattle farms and ranching. Students recently had the opportunity to take their learning outside the classroom.
Media specialist Elizabeth Shadix said the school welcomed local farmer John Rega with BB Ranch, who brought two of the horses he uses while working cattle on his ranch.
Students learned firsthand how important horses can be in helping ranchers move, sort and care for cattle, she said.
They also had the opportunity to sit on the horses and even lead them around.
"Our students also discovered so many interesting facts about horses, from how much they weigh and how much they eat each day to the training and care required for a working ranch horse," Shadix said. "They were able to ask questions and see up close how these amazing animals help get the job done on a cattle ranch."
"The best part was getting some hands-on experience!" she added.
