Stewart Middle students with their colorful plant cell models.

Seventh graders at Stewart Middle School brought science to life recently by creating colorful plant cell models.

Students explored cell organelles, their functions and how each part works together to keep a cell healthy. By designing and labeling their own models, students transformed a complex scientific concept into something they could see, build and explain.

Using construction paper, students created large plant cell models featuring 11 organelles they learned about in class. They connected each organelle to its function, discussing how the structures work together within a plant cell.

Science teacher Jourdan Bunkley designed the project to give students a hands-on approach to understanding the cell structure and function.

“We’re proud of our Eagles for learning, creating and making science come to life,” said Bunkley.

The project gave students an engaging way to put their classroom learning into practice while making complex scientific concepts easier to understand.
