🌟 Greatness Is What We Do Next.
Our students are learning to recognize their own growth, celebrate progress, and take pride in their learning—not for rewards, but for themselves. That’s how lifelong learners are made. 💪📚
💬 Here’s what our 1st grade students have to say…

Jayde - "I like learning because it makes me smarter and smarter. We have fun learning by playing games and going up to the board. Doing calendar math is my favorite thing. I want to keep learning so I can go to college."

Lincoln - "I like learning because it makes me smart. It's fun because Mrs. Sweeney likes to celebrate when we get things correct. I want to keep learning so I can get as smart as I can."

Ella - "I like learning because it's fun! My teacher makes it fun by letting us play games, read books, and use blocks to learn. I want to keep learning because it's my favorite thing to do!"

Yesterday we were honored to celebrate the 33-year career of a truly wonderful educator, Mrs. Janice Parker!

For more than three decades, she loved every student who walked through her door as if they were her own. She taught them that hard work matters — even when things aren’t easy — and reminded them that they are worthy of every good thing this world has to offer.

Thank you, Mrs. Parker, for your unwavering dedication and the countless lives you have touched over the years. Your impact will be felt for generations to come.

We hope you enjoy every minute of your well-deserved retirement! 💛📚

Mrs. Johnson’s class has officially concluded their Classroom Olympics unit!

Students designed and participated in three winter sporting events: figure skating, speed skating, and bobsledding. As part of the project, they also collected data and graphed the different medal counts earned by each country, exploring multiple ways to represent their findings.

This engaging, hands-on experience allowed students to build skills in teamwork, creativity, and data analysis. We are proud to share that in their classroom, every student earned “gold” through their effort and dedication. 🥇

Well done to all of our outstanding Olympic learners!

📈 Greatness Is What We Do Next.
When students reflect on their progress and set personal goals, they discover that growth is something they create. Confidence grows when learning comes from within. ✨
💬 Listen to our 4th grade students share how they have seen their own growth this year…

Kendra - "I know I've grown in math because my grades have improved from the beginning of the year. I knew I wanted to get better at fractions and my scores in iReady show that I have!"

Xavier - "I know I've grown in reading because the goals I've set for myself have caused my grades to go up and my iReady scores to soar."

Sarai - "I know I've grown in writing because my teachers have inspired me and let me read more which also inspires my writing. I know I've grown because even a 5th grade teacher has read my writing and told her students to write like me."

🎯 Greatness Is What We Do Next.
By helping students see where they started and how far they’ve come, we empower them to believe in themselves—and to keep striving for what’s next. That mindset fuels lifelong learning. 💙
💬 Our 2nd grade students say it best…

Levi - "I like learning because I can learn cool new things; it's fun to get cool knowledge. I want to keep learning so I can continue to get smarter."

Jacie - "I like learning because it helps my brain grow. I want it to keep growing because it helps me do cool things."

Elena - "I like learning math because it's fun and easy for me. I want to keep learning to help me grow up to be successful!"

This week’s Kindness Matters recognition goes to students who showed generosity and teamwork in STEM. Gabby and Rex donated their extra store-bought materials for the Georgia Habitat Project so other classes could use them for their projects.
Their willingness to share helped everyone succeed.
They were nominated by Mrs. Anthony for showing kindness, cooperation, and responsibility.
Great job Gabby and Rex for remembering kindness matters!

📚✨ We are so excited that next week is Read Across America & Book Fair Week! ✨📚

Be sure to check out the attached flyers for all the details about these two BIG events!

Have loved ones who live far away but would still like to help your child shop the Book Fair? eWallet is a wonderful option! When students have money in their eWallet, we call them to the Book Fair so they can shop with ease—no cash to keep up with! You can set it up using this link or scanning the QR code on the flyers: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/masoncreekelementaryschool

You can also:
📖 Contribute to a teacher’s classroom library
📖 Donate funds to help students who may not be able to shop
📖 Set up an eWallet under your child’s teacher’s name or click the donate now button under “Share the Fair” to support our school community

Thank you for supporting our love of reading and helping us make this week extra special! ❤️📚

Ms. Boyd’s 5th-grade science class has been exploring plant and animal cells and creating edible cell models to represent each organelle. Even better—students can clearly explain the function of every part!

Please show them some Wolf Pack love 🐺💙 They have been working hard, and it shows!

Way to go, 5th Grade Science!

We had a great day sharing the love of friends! 💕

Book Club celebrated by creating special valentines from the friends of the main character to Roz, the robot who has helped them all in The Wild Robot. Our students loved stepping into the story and showing appreciation for the kindness and friendship woven throughout the book.

This week in the Media Center, we also read I Am Every Good Thing and had meaningful conversations about how we are all every good thing in this world and worthy of all good things. What a powerful reminder for our students as we celebrate Valentine's Day!

We hope everyone has a wonderful time celebrating love with your families! ❤️ We’ll see you back after Winter Break, Monday, February 23rd, refreshed and ready for more learning adventures! 📚✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Valentine’s Love of Literacy Night! ❤️📚

We had such a wonderful evening reading books together, making Valentines, creating special bookmarks for family members, and checking out extra books for the break from our library and the Douglas County Public Library Book Mobile!

It was so much fun seeing families reading side by side and capturing sweet memories at our photo station.

Thank you for coming out and showing your Cub that literacy is something to celebrate as a whole family. And a special thank you to our staff who stayed at school to run stations and helped make it such a successful night and Annie from the Douglas County Public Library for bringing the Book Mobile! We are so grateful for our amazing community! 🐾💕

💡 Powering Up in the STEM Lab! ⚡

Our 5th graders are sparking new ideas this Black History Month! During STEM, students explored the life and legacy of Lewis Latimer, the brilliant inventor who played a pivotal role in the development of the lightbulb and the electric lamp.

Inspired by Latimer’s contributions to electricity, our young scientists got hands-on by:

🔌 Creating their own functional electric circuits.

🔍 Testing everyday objects to classify them as conductors or insulators.

💡 Discovering exactly what it takes to keep the lights glowing!

It was an "electrifying" way to honor history while building future engineering skills. 🛠️✨

To Infinity and Beyond in the STEM Lab!

Our 4th-grade scientists have been reaching for the stars! During STEM class this Black History Month, students honored the incredible legacy of Dr. Mae Jemison by taking their engineering skills to the next dimension.

Using Tinkercad, these young innovators designed custom rockets that are now coming to life on our brand-new 3D printer! 🖨️✨

🙌 A Heartfelt Thank You
We want to extend a huge shout-out to the Key family for their generous donation of the 3D printer. This amazing tool will be used during STEM to enhance hands-on learning for all of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students.

We are so grateful for your support in helping our students’ ideas take flight! 🚀💡

The Future of Engineering is in 3rd Grade! 🚀
During STEM, our students dived into the incredible legacy of Alexander Miles to celebrate Black History Month. After learning how his invention of automatic elevator doors changed the world, our young engineers took the lead!

Using a mix of LEGOs and VEX kits, they designed and built their own elevator prototypes with custom door mechanisms. Honestly? Some of these unique designs are so clever, we might see them in modern buildings one day! 🏢✨
