WEATHER UPDATE: The Douglas County School System has been closely monitoring Hurricane Helene and the potential for heavy rain and strong winds in our area tomorrow in collaboration with the National Weather Service. According to the National Hurricane Center and our local emergency management agency, inclement weather will begin impacting our area on Thursday evening. At this time, schools will operate on a normal schedule on Thursday, September 26, 2024. However, all after-school activities and programs on that day will be canceled. In addition, all classes, after school events and activities will be canceled for Friday, September 27. Our top priority is to always maintain the safety of our students and staff. Therefore, we will keep a vigilant eye on weather conditions throughout the evening. If there are any further changes, we will promptly inform our school community. We will communicate this important information through email, text, and social media platforms. It will also be shared on social media and in collaboration with our media partners. We appreciate your understanding as we continue our focus on the safety and well-being of our school community.

Douglas County Association for Gifted Children Kick-Off Meeting: Please join us Monday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Murray Education Center, 4841 Hwy. 5, Douglasville, GA 30135, for our first meeting of the 2024-2025 school year. We are very excited to welcome all the new students and families into the gifted program and reconnect with those who are already part of the group. Dear families: As the details of the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Barrow County continue to unfold, the Douglas County Board of Education and I are deeply saddened by today’s events. Our hearts are heavy with concern for the Barrow County community. We want to extend our deepest condolences to the families directly affected by this profound loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the students, staff, and families of Apalachee High School. Families, I want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff will always be our highest priority. In light of today’s events, we are increasing our security protocols. We will continue working alongside our Douglas County School System Police Department to keep our schools as safe as possible. Additionally, we will continue working daily to review and strengthen our security and emergency response protocols. Beginning tomorrow, our school counselors and Crisis Response Team will be available to support any students needing help processing this tragedy. It is important, and we encourage you to talk with your children about their feelings. Please reach out if you need additional resources or support. We ask that you join us in keeping the Barrow County School community in your thoughts and prayers. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our school administrators.
