Superintendent's Gala to Benefit, Enhance Special Education Programs
On Saturday, November 3, the Douglas County School System will present an inspirational fundraising gala created to propel special education students toward achieving their highest potential. The extraordinary Superintendent’s Gala strives to raise money to deliver supplemental educational resources and inspire learning for all Special Education students.  The Douglasville Conference Center will host the inaugural Great Gatsby-themed gala beginning at 7 pm.

Superintendent Trent North says the inaugural event’s purpose is to assist the Special Education department with meeting the needs of the community-based programs not covered by local, state or federal funds. North says, “To succeed at the highest levels, our students need more out of classroom experiences.

These experiences build functional independence, provide an additional layer of learning opportunities and inspire more learning.”  Components of the community-based programs that will benefit from the gala include vocational training, job skills taught in workplace settings, celebrations of student achievement, increasing access to leisure activities and strengthening the district’s Special Olympics program.

Cheryl Handley, Executive Director of Special Education, agrees, adding, “This inaugural gala will be a fun, festive event to support our Special Education students. The proceeds will certainly make a tremendous  impact on the programs we provide our students.”

Presenting sponsors of the Superintendent’s Gala are Greystone Power Corporation and Southwire. Additional sponsorship opportunities are still available.

Formal attire is requested for the evening of fine dining and dancing. Tickets are $100 per person or $1000 for a table of ten. Tickets are available by visiting www.showtix4u.com.
