Career minded Douglas County eighth and ninth graders are getting a jump-start on career planning by attending the In-Demand Career Expo. The Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, along with the Douglas Economic Development Authority, hosted the Career Expo October 25 and 26 for students to learn about the growing cross-section of high demand jobs available after graduation. This one of a kind career fair connected students with employers and career opportunities available to them in the future.

Employees and sponsors from GreyStone Power, RA-LIN, Cole-Hil Architecture, Douglasville Police, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, West Georgia Technical College, Georgia Highlands College, the Douglas County CVB, FAME Internet Marketing, and many others wowed students through presentations about high demand opportunities available throughout the state.

Mandy Johnson, Director of College and Career Programs, says: “The school system partnered with the Chamber of Commerce and the Douglas Economic Development Authority to assist students as they explore careers and in-demand occupations. We designed this interactive event so that every student will have the opportunity to explore career opportunities and reap the rewards of working in an in-demand field.”

Organizers set up the educational event to feel like a bustling trade show. The Douglasville Conference Center event allowed students to spend a short period each with representatives from dozens of career fields. When time was up, it was time for students to move on and learn about another exciting in-demand career field. During their time at each booth, students asked company representatives relevant questions about salaries and educational requirements.

The In Demand Career Expo will continue February 1, 2019, for ninth graders in their spring semester freshman seminar class.
